Children's Ministry Spotlight: The Voorberg Family
We have so many outstanding people who volunteer in our children's ministry. We feel it is important to highlight a few of them.
Rich, Esther, Aiden, Sydney, Avalon, & Liam Voorberg are no strangers to Willow Creek Church or our children's ministry. Attending Willow Creek since 2002, the Voorbergs have been in and out of Winter Springs since that time, mainly due to Rich's job which has him literally traveling the world. Whether local or abroad, this family has a passion for Jesus and a desire to connect and serve in a myriad of ways.
Rich serves as an Elder and gently guides and directs our church in terms of making decisions of how to move foward. Esther, serves as a Bible study leader in our Women's Ministry, and has been a key component in VBS and children's ministry for years. Esther was one of the first people that reached out to me at the beginning of my employment and offered solid advice as well as an open invite into their home for a meal. She and Rich graciously hosted our children's ministry social this Fall as several from our ministry team had a great time out on their pool deck eating burgers and sharing stories.
Aiden, Sydney, & Avalon, are truly remarkable young men and women. I have seen Aiden grow spiritually through his time in the youth ministry, and have seen him develop a real passion for caring and serving the youngest children in our ministry. Aiden is a regular in our pre-school Sunday School hour on Sunday mornings, and many times I see children climbing all over this gentle giant.
Sydney, though outwardly quiet, is inwardly an extremely witty and intelligent individual. Sydney has a funny side, and loves to serve in pre-school ministry, elementary Sunday School, and at VBS. She is a huge addition to the team and is very good about doing whatever is asked of her by our Sunday School teachers.
Avalon is near and dear to my heart. Avalon was in our children's ministry last year as a 5th grader, and attended the Communicants Class where she excelled and asked extremely thought provoking questions. Avalon also has a desire to serve like her older siblings, and upon reaching 6th grade, immediately took it upon herself to be engaged with serving in her little brother Liam's 1st grade Sunday School class. Avalon is very helpful and is learning to love the Lord and others well.
This family is an absolute treasure to Willow Creek Church, and particularly, the children's ministry. They are extremely kind, humble, and generous. I am honored to serve alongside them, and have told Rich several times that I personally desire to be the type of husband and father that he is.
God is moving our church forward, and we are so thankful for these wonderful 6 individuals to be included in our numbers. Thank you Voorberg family, so much, for your faithful service to Willow Creek Church and for loving our Lord, our children, and our church family so well!
